At Young Hip & Married, we are passionate about weddings big and small, but we have a soft spot for intimate elopements. We love the chance for couples to be themselves and to focus on just their love, without anything else getting in the way.
Below we’re chatting with two members of the Young Hip & Married Vancouver Island team all about the awesome elopement package!
Please introduce yourselves!
Charlie: Hi, I’m Chris-Ann (otherwise known as Charlie). She/her are my pronouns. I am a licensed wedding officiant working with Young Hip & Married. I have been creating and officiating wedding ceremonies all over Vancouver Island for over a decade.
Taylor: My name is Taylor Roades and I am a full time photographer based in Victoria BC; originally from Toronto, ON. Over the past ten years, photography has taken me all over the world, from Cambodia to the Scottish highlands, and at home in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Travel is what is what sparked my interest in photography, but a love for life’s small joys is what brought me to weddings.
To learn more about Charlie, click here and to learn more about Taylor, click here.
Charlie, why do you love officiating elopements?
Charlie: I LOVE officiating elopements with couples because it is such a relaxing and intimate experience for everyone involved. Smaller groups naturally mean people feel more comfortable to be themselves which often produces the BEST unscripted heartfelt and humorous moments.
And Taylor, what do you love about working with Charlie?
Taylor: Charlie’s ceremony and my photography style really compliment each other; we are both laid back and take the time to get to know the people we are working for. This personalized approach to elopements really matters when there are only a few people in attendance.
Why should couples consider eloping instead of a big wedding?
Charlie: Couples should consider eloping during COVID (or anytime) because it is a huge load off from the regular amount of planning that goes into weddings. I have yet to have a couple say they regret calling off their original ceremony date and instead doing an elopement, even if they do decide to postpone their reception to a later time.
What makes Vancouver Island the perfect place for couples to elope?
Charlie: Have you been here? Vancouver Island is brag worthy! It’s a destination wedding hotspot, and to the rest of us, it’s home. Whether it’s stone churches or castles, ocean waves along sandy beaches, rainforest canopies, snow capped mountains, crystal clear lakes or famous flower gardens, Vancouver Island has it all!
So you want to elope in Vancouver but you’re looking to elope somewhere special and away from the crowds? We hear you. It sounds like you’re looking for an intimate Vancouver wedding off the beaten path…and we know just where to do it!
Below you’ll find our favourite secret, special or unique spots to get married in and around Vancouver. Note that some of these locations require a drive, a hike, a permit or other accommodations – but that’s sometimes what you need to do if you truly want to elope off the beaten path.
PS: While many of the Vancouver wedding locations below are free of charge, some do require you to pay and book ahead and/or get a permit. Please see our FAQ sectionor the municipality website for more information.
The best places to elope in Vancouver off the beaten path
Alice Lake
Alice Lake is surrounded by mountains, forest trees and grassy areas. For your off the beaten path elopement, you have several hiking trails with view points to choose from such as Four Lakes Trail (6km) and Debeck’s Hill Trail (3km strenuous roundtrip). Get married with a view of the Tantalus Mountain Range and Mount Garibaldi.
Alouette Lake
Alouette Lake in Maple Ridge will give you mountain and water views, without the crowds you might find at more popular lakes and beaches in the heart of the city. It’s at the door step of the Golden Ears mountain range, providing you with the most beautiful backdrop.
Anderson Beach
This beautiful area of Squamish offers mountain views, bright blue waters and a sandy beach. It’s also an important area for local wildlife so ensure you’re being respectful during your intimate elopement.
Baden Powell Trail
Baden Powell Trail in North Vancouver is a favourite for hikers and offers lots of options for eloping couples too. This 48 km trail stretches from Horseshoe Bay all the way to Deep Cove, so you’ll have lots of spots to choose from. Note that you may have to do a bit of hiking to find the perfect spot.
Barnet Marine Park
This beautiful spot in Burnaby is a new favourite amongst our officiants! You’ve got a rocky beach, 1.3km of picturesque shoreline and moody mountains in background. Enjoy views of the Burrard Inlet and don’t forget about these gorgeous arches – the perfect spot to say your vows!
About an hour outside of the city, Buntzen Lake in Anmore is a beautiful spot to tie the knot. There are stunning views, scenic hiking trails and covered areas if it rains. The trail that loops the entire lake offers water views, forests, a quiet beach and a suspension bridge.
Burnaby Mountain
This low, forested mountain in the city of Burnaby is a great spot for the couple looking for a little bit of everything. From grassy fields and forests to gardens and hiking trails, you’ll have lots of options.
Cates Park
Head to this North Vancouver park if you’re looking for a less crowded beach option for your elopement. Enjoy a typical west coast rocky beach and head out on the Cates Park Loop. This loop is 2.4km along the water and offers viewpoints, beach access and lush forests.
Cascade Falls
Cascade Falls in Mission is reached by just a short hike from the parking lot of the regional park. After your easy walk to the falls, check out the view from the suspension bridge or continue to explore the forests and creeks of this regional park.
Field in Squamish
This location is certainly off the beaten path as it is one we stumbled upon ourselves. Right next to the Skwelwil’em Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area, this field is a beautiful spot for an intimate elopement in nature.
Fort Langley
Fort Langley National Historic Site of Canada is a great choice for a special elopement where you can travel back to the 1800s. Not only do the unique buildings make great backdrops, they also provide rain coverage. Be sure to call ahead if you’re planning to elope at Fort Langley.
Just a few hours from Vancouver, Harrison is a popular spot for weekend staycations. Besides the well-known hot springs, Harrison also offers tons of scenic spots out in nature, perfect for your officiant to pronounce you married.
Inter River Park
Inter River Park in North Vancouver is going to feel truly off the beaten path for your elopement. Head down to the creek bed and get married with the rushing water in the background. Then hike around the park to find the perfect canopy of trees for your post-ceremony photos. Note that this park is very dog friendly!
Kanaka Creek
Kanaka Creek is located in Maple Ridge and offers a set of easy hiking trails through greenery and along the creek bed. A short walk from Cliff Park will give you access to Cliff Falls and other beautiful viewpoints. We recommend you scout out this location in advance!
Lighthouse Park
Lighthouse Park is one of the most scenic parks in the Vancouver area. This West Van park is a favourite amongst our officiants, with lots of moody and natural locations for an elopement. Keep in mind that certain areas of the park can only be reached by a short walk/hike.
Lions Bay
Located between Vancouver and Squamish, Lions Bay lies on the shore of Howe Sound. The Lions Bay Loop is a series of hiking trails that passes Crystal Falls and offers stunning viewpoints of Howe Sound and the forest along the way.
Lynn Canyon
“That Golden Ears look without the drive. I love this location. We get a stunning mix of forest, rocks, river and a suspension bridge! Do be prepared for some serious walking for this one as some of my favourite spots are at the very bottom of the canyon,” says Emily of Emily Nicole Photos.
Pro tip: Leave your heels at home or plan to carry them until you get to the bottom of the canyon.
Manning Park is 2-3 hours from Vancouver but well worth the drive for this stunning location. Within the Cascade Mountains, E.C. Manning Provincial Park is massive, offers beautiful natural backdrops, and looks especially pretty when blanketed in snow.
Pitt Lake
Pitt Lake in Pitt Meadows is one of our favourite spots for off the beaten path Vancouver elopements. We love it so much that we often visit it after or instead of helicopter elopements – many couples do additional portraits at Pitt Lake following their helicopter elopement or if it’s unsafe for helicopters to fly, Pitt Lake becomes the perfect plan b. We can’t say no to this beautiful spot!
Porteau Cove
Under an hour from Vancouver, Porteau Cove Provincial Park offers a beautiful park and campsite for eloping couples. With the Howe Sound behind you, say your I do’s in one of the most picturesque spots on the water. For real water enthusiasts, there are also scuba diving opportunities at this park.
Rocky Point
Rocky Point in Port Moody gives you great vibes of the Burrard Inlet with stunning views and a cool neighbourhood feel. Depending on the time of year and time of day, you’ll find the tide in or very far out. Toast your Vancouver elopement with a beer at one of the area’s many microbreweries.
Stone Circle
We love a Whistler elopement – our Vancouver officiants travel! And one of our favourite elopement locations in Whistler is the Stone Circle at Alta Lake. This beautiful spot (that is just screaming, “Elope here!”) is available year round, sits right on the water, and is surrounded by forest. Note that it does need to be booked in advance.
Under the Golden Ears Bridge
You may have heard of couples getting married at Golden Ears but have you ever heard of an elopement under the Golden Ears Bridge? We didn’t think so, and that’s why this spot is truly off the beaten path. Plus, it’s the perfect rainy day option with full rain coverage!
Whytecliff Park
If you’re looking for a moody vibe and water background for your Vancouver elopement, you’ll get all of that and more at Whytecliff Park. This park is well-known for marine animal sightings, so keep your eyes open for sunbathing sea lions.

Queen Elizabeth Park is another awesome location option for your Vancouver elopement. Besides lots of beautiful greenery, this park also happens to be the highest point in the city, meaning you will have a stunning view. Whether you’re looking for a beach, the woods, a rose garden, a lake or a viewpoint, Stanley Park has it. Plus if you need a place with a ton of beauty and lots of natural rain coverage there’s our favourites: the Cathedral of Trees and the Hollow Tree.

Planning to elope in Victoria or on Vancouver Island? Check out these awesome spots for an intimate wedding, courtesy of our elopement photographer, Taylor Roades. We are so excited to have Taylor on the team. You can learn more about her below!
And when you’re ready to book your Vancouver island elopement, get in touch! We know the perfect Victoria officiants and photographers for your small celebration.
Meet Taylor Roades, our new elopement photographer in Victoria
Please introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Taylor Roades and I am a full time photographer based in Victoria BC; originally from Toronto, ON. Over the past ten years, photography has taken me across Asia to China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia. I’ve carried too much photo gear through the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the Scottish highlands and I have clicked a shutter thousands and thousands of times – I’ve had a very well documented couple of years.
Travel is what is what sparked my interest in photography, but a love for life’s small joys is what brought me to weddings.
How long have you been in the wedding industry?
I shot my first wedding in September of 2011, so coming up on ten years!
What first attracted you to the wedding industry?
Weddings are a great combination of journalism, interiors, landscapes, product (detail) shots and portraits. I’ve always liked that to be a great wedding photographer you have to do it all.
When you’re not busy with weddings, how do you love to spend your time?
When I’m not busy with weddings, I am hiking and spending time outdoors. I run a photo studio, and shoot a fair amount of travel/commercial work.
What advice do you have for couples looking for an elopement photographer?
If you are looking to hire a photographer, I would say look at their website/portfolio. Instagram is all the rage but you never see how a photographer will work in bad lighting situations, or less than perfect locations. I think the best thing you can do is a deep dive on their website and ask to see a full gallery to gage their skill level.
All photos below by Taylor Roades Weddings unless otherwise specified.
Gowlland Tod Park
Taylor cautions, “This one requires a hike but you’re rewarded with spectacular views of the inlet!” Not a bad spot for a Victoria wedding!
On a sailboat
Want to make your Victoria elopement super unique? Why not get married on a boat? You can rent a sailboat and head up the Malahat from Sooke or other ports around the island.
Say your I do’s on the dock before you go or choose a place along the way. Our officiants and photographers would love to come for the ride on the water for your Vancouver Island wedding!
Summit Park
If you’re looking for a slice of nature in the middle of the city, look no farther than Victoria’s Summit Park for the perfect city elopement spot.
William Street Studio
Taylor shares, “This artist’s studio is a great indoor location for when the weather isn’t ideal for being outdoors. It’s got big windows and beautiful white walls.”
Mount Douglas & Dallas Road
A Victoria classic! This is one of the most popular spots in Victoria, especially around sunset. But with Taylor’s help, you’ll be able to enjoy your own slice of this epic viewpoint and the beautiful Dallas Road waterfront walkway.
Starling Lane Vineyard
Here’s a great option for elopements and micro weddings. Taylor says, “This place is perfect for a rainy day as there are lots of indoor locations like a small greenhouse and atrium. They also have beautiful outdoor locations in their gardens.”
Library Room at the Empress Hotel
Everyone knows the famous Empress Hotel in Victoria. But did you know you could have your intimate wedding celebration there? Taylor suggests you check out the Library Room. “It’s a gorgeous, cozy, wood room surrounded by books and basking in natural light,” Taylor shares.
Saxe Point Park
Last but not least, we have elopement photographer (and Young Hip & Married cofounder!), Erica Miller, jumping in with one final suggestion. Consider stunning Saxe Point Park for your Victoria elopement where you can enjoy lush forest vibes as well as stunning seafront views.

We’re so excited to introduce you to our newest Victoria officiant, Chris-Ann! Chris-Ann is ready to officiate your Vancouver Island wedding or Victoria elopement!
Without further ado, let’s meet our Officiant Chris-Ann from Victoria, BC!
When meeting with a couple, what’s the first question you like to ask them?
You’d think it would be something about how they met but no, I don’t want to start with it being all about them. I like to ask them why they want to work with me. This may sound like I’m fishing for an ego boost, but there’s actually more to it. The question often helps them describe what kind of wedding they want without realizing it.
For example, the couple who say it’s because I’m younger, or female, or funny, shows me that they care about their ceremony and have a vision in mind that I can help pull off.
What is the best compliment a couple or wedding guest has ever given you?
I often get compliments from guests who will come up to me afterwards to tell me that my words really impacted them. This means a lot to me because as much as I am there witnessing and officiating for the couple and their love, I am also there to testify to love all around. My overall goal is to uplift and inspire everyone in attendance.
What is the best part about officiating Victoria weddings?
The best part for me is bringing everyone into the moment. I often do this with humour. When I can get a room filled with hundreds of people laughing, absolutely nothing compares to that.
What’s the most challenging part?
The most challenging part of being an officiant for me is trying to get some couples to care about their ceremony when they’d rather just focus on partying at the reception. I mean, I will never complain about doing any wedding ever, I just think my time and their money could be better spent elsewhere…. unless of course they invite me to their reception!
What one thing should all couples know before their wedding ceremony?
One thing they should know is that they will blink and it will all be over. So practicing being present and in the moment is super important. Also, they have absolutely nothing to worry about if I’m doing their ceremony; they just need to follow my lead!
Share your wildest or most memorable Vancouver Island wedding moment!
The wildest and most memorable moment for me so far was when a couple contacted me from out east with the idea to do an ‘out of the box’ ceremony with their closest friends in BC. The best part was that they wanted to do it after a hike to the top of Goldstream Trestle (800 metres up). Oh and that it was going to be a surprise for their friends who were all avid hikers!
Now, to be honest, I am not a hiker and I am scared of heights, but I was stoked to help pull it off!
If you were getting married, what would you want in your wedding ceremony?
I heard of a couple who made it their mission to get (re)married in every different country and in every different tradition in the world. I would love to do something like this!
Why do you think couples should invest in their wedding ceremony?
I think couples should invest in their ceremony/officiant because it’s an opportunity for them to tell all their loved ones and guests their story. It’s a chance for couples to not only share what got them to this point, but what they want for their lives going forward. This is their moment!
Of course there will always be couples who are more private and low key, and that is fine. But still investing in an officiant who is willing to get to know them personally in order to reflect their personality on their day is so important.
What is something people would never guess about you?
People would never guess that I’m actually an introvert… I just have extrovert tendencies.
Who is your dream couple that you’d like to officiate for? Or a dream ceremony setting?
My dream couple would take me to my dream setting… so anyone who wants to do a destination wedding, I’m totally down!
What is your favourite wedding movie?
Bridesmaids
What do you wish for your couples?
I wish for my couples to look back on their wedding day and be confident that was the perfect way to start their marriage.

Jennifer & Chris
Jennifer & Chris tied the knot with Jane last November in a beautiful ceremony deep in the woods of Stanley Park. Who says you can’t wear a veil with a jean jacket? We love it! Photos by Emily Nicole Photos.

Rachel and Pete were joined by some of their friends and family from the UK to make this intimate wedding a special family affair. Photos by Clint Bargen Photography.
Hamas & Simon
Jane officiated a very special Stanley Park wedding this past March, with photos by Emily Nicole Photos. Sweethearts Hamas and Simon met as international students at UBC. Unfortunately, their families couldn’t join them for their elopement…at least not in person. Using modern technology, they were able to bring in their parents from Morocco and China, and even introduce their parents to one another on their phones.
Jiawei & Yu
One of the most beautiful places in Stanley Park for an elopement is the Rose Garden. Jiawei and Yu decided to tie the knot there with Shawn this past April. Photos by Erica Miller Photography.
Jess & Rory
Even in the rain, Stanley Park is a great spot for an intimate wedding. Jess and Rory proved just that during their elopement with Jane, photos by Erica Miller Photography. Making it even more special, the two witnesses we found to sign the marriage licence were actually celebrating their first anniversary!
